Three Month Update
Month Three Memories
- Throwing your first fit at Grandma's when she was babysitting so Mom and Dad could go out for their one year anniversary
- First trip to Seneca Park and Cove Springs
- First time in a brewery...uhh, not sure if I should be admitting this or not. For the record, I didn't drink! Tee hee.
Month Three Milestones
- Bearing weight on your legs and using them to push up to standing when someone holds up your arms
- Almost rolling over :)
- Eating about 4 ounces every two or three hours
- Sleeping almost through the night, only waking up once to eat, usually while still half asleep
- Still in size one diapers and zero to three month clothes.
- Plenty of other things that I can't remember because I'm posting this two months too late.

Two Month Update for a Three Month Old Baby
This month has been so much fun with you, and I think that has a lot to do with you sleeping through the night most of the time towards the end of the month. Nothing makes life smoother when everyone gets a full (or almost full) night of sleep. Now that I'm looking back, those first few weeks were so rough. They seem like a blurry haze, and in the thick of it we just powered through. The Tina Fey quote wishing "That I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 a.m., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back" rings so true to me. Funny story, one morning your father admitted to me that he woke up on the floor of your nursery with you asleep next to him with nothing but the throw blanket and pillow to keep him warm. I admitted to him I had been doing the same thing on my nights with you too! We blew up an air mattress to sleep on after that.
Now you sleep by yourself in a dock a tot, like a dream by the way, and we are back to sleeping in our room. I still wake up with you most night since I'm on maternity leave until July, but you only wake up once if at all. Don't take that to mean I'm getting TONS of sleep, mostly because I wake up to check and see if you are still breathing more often than I care to admit. First time mom anxiety is real, and strong.
You are smiling, giggling, and so happy most of the time and you've really started finding your voice. I love to make noises with you that you imitate. Watching you giggle at my funny faces and sounds is just about the best thing on Earth. Now I see why people have so many kids, because I just can't get enough of it. I find myself wishing you'd stay this age forever and at the same time being so excited to see what you learn next. You truly are an amazing little creature and your dad and I feel like the luckiest people on Earth.
Second month milestones:
- Smiling when happy
- Giggling at funny faces and noises
- Holding up head full time
- Mimicking sounds
- Sleeping through the night, sometimes for 10 hours!
- Bearing weight on legs when being held upright
Second month memories:
- First trip to the library
- Your Popi's birthday party in Louisville and mom's first freak out about too many hands on her boy (whoops...)
- Meeting your Uncle Mack when he and Laura took trip home from Cali
- Mini road trip to Cincinnati to see friends- it took 3 hours to go the 90 minute drive home because SOMEONE was over being out and about
- Meeting your cousin Tripp and Martin side of the family
- Meeting the Faulkner's and your second cousin Tess!
- The best and most wonderful Mother's Day ever, thanks to you, your brother, and your incredibly sweet father
- First Derby, we spent it at Keeneland with the Logan's and Logsdon's! Your second cousins Kylie, Meghan, and Emma are so crazy about you!!!
- A few trips to the office to get some work done
Bug, you have made my life turn absolutely upside down in the best possible way. I'm not quite sure I deserve to be this happy and can't believe how incredibly miraculous life truly is.
Love,
Your mama

One Month Update
This sweet boy of ours....y'all, I can't keep my eyes off him long enough to update this blog. Hence why I'm writing his one month post when he's a week or so away from being two months old.
This pose is a go to for our funny posed little guy, who I've taken to calling Doodle Bug, Bug for short. His hands are always in the funniest and most expressive poses. I couldn't love it more!!!
First trip to the park with the whole family, I dressed him for a blizzard, even though it was almost 60 degrees.
First bath! Jude loves his baths, but only now that he can have a real one instead of the sponge baths. Those were NOT fun.
I mean, look at this face. Little goofy guy, he's such a hoot!
First month milestones:
- Smiling at mom in the hospital, I know it's gas, but it counts.
- Lifting up head at two weeks old, so strong!!!
- First long sleep at 6 hours a few days after we came home from out hospital stay.
- We've met almost all of our in state relatives, and they all love him just as much as I do!!!
First month memories to remember forever:
- In the first few weeks home, you peed on mom at least 4 times. I've since wised up!
- You hate to be swaddled and break free of them nearly every night. Don't mess with a boy and his hands!
- You love to have a paci, hand, or couple of fingers in your mouth just like your dad when he was little.
- We took our first (and second and third!) trip to Keeneland to watch your Uncle Sam race his filly Pour Girl and we ended up in the winner's circle photo!!!! I'm so excited to watch you grow up and learn the sport of kings that our state is so proud of! You really kicked it off right, kiddo!
{That's Jude in the K'tan with the white sun hat. He might have slept through all the excitement.}
Things are going so great, and despite how exhausting the days are, the weeks are so short. And life is so sweet. So wonderfully awesome and more than I ever dreamed it would be. Bug, I love you so much that it makes my momma heart swell so big I can hardly contain it!

39 Weeks and OMG Get This Baby Outta Me
So here we are. 39 weeks, 5 days, a giant belly, and no signs of baby-to-be making his grand entrance anytime soon. Let's just say that I. AM. OVER. THIS. So over this that my OB has decided that I qualify for an induction next week. And by qualify, I mean she wasn't going to let me go more than 41 weeks anyway. So at 40 weeks and 4 days, we'll be heading to the hospital for some good old Pitocin and water breaking. That is, if I don't chicken out and cancel the procedure. I really planned to wait it out until he came on his own. That was before I hit the third trimester. Or got pregnant and spent most of a year in pain or at the very least, extremely uncomfortable.
I'm secretly hoping he decides to come on his own before that so I don't have as high of a risk to end up with a cesarean, but we'll see.
So here's the last set of updates before we get to meet our sweet boy!
How Far Along:
Too far. Ha, only 2 days away from D-Day!
Baby's Size:
According to the apps, we're having a small watermelon until we hit 40 weeks on Friday and he's going to turn into a small pumpkin. Who knows how big he actually is, though. Judging by the rate of my ice cream and Girl Scout cookie consumption, he's probably going to be the size of a small butterball turkey...
Symptoms:
Lots of false labor contractions, still plenty of kicks and squirms, and lots of swelling. And I am STARVING again for some reason.
Movement:
Still pretty active in there, which is one of the reasons I doubt he's making any moves towards the other side anytime soon. He definitely loves (or hates?) my evening bath time ritual and prefers The Postal Service over my renditions of Toto's Africa.
Sleep:
Ha. Let's just move on, please.
Nursery:
Finished! One of these days, I'll take some pictures with my real camera and do a full post. I love it, and sometimes just find myself sitting in there wishing for our little guy to be in my arms.
The Name Game:
Still Jude :)
Looking Forward To:
Meeting my little indie rock loving wiggle worm.
Best Thing From This Week:
So this is actually from last week, but it was so dang sweet that I want to share it and preserve it in internet history. On the way home from school last week, Silas and I were talking about how I ended up working in construction and that led to the question "Will Jude work for you like you work for your dad?" My response was something along the lines of, well, maybe. He might want to be a biologist like his dad, or something totally different. And he piped up from the backseat with a very hopeful tone of voice and said "Or maybe an engineer with me?" Good God, just lay me down right there because I about died and pretty much burst into tears driving down the road. It was by far the sweetest thing I've ever heard. I hope he does want to be an engineer with his big brother too, Silas. I really do.
Rings:
Super off. I don't think I could get them past the first knuckle at this point. It's so incredibly uncomfortable to be this swollen.
Missing Most:
The ability to move around without being in agony. Sleeping without waking up every hour. Oh wait, that's not going to get any better anytime soon. And red wine.
Left to Do:
Have a baby.
