Four Month Update

I'm really trying to be a little more timely with the monthly updates on my sweet baby, but y'all, kids are no joke. If I thought I was busy before a baby, then I don't know what I'd call it now.

Anyway, here's a look at month four, by far one of my most favorite to date. It's been pretty awesome!

We packed so much into month four that it's going to be hard to not bombard the internet with massive amounts of photos, so I'm not even going to apologize as I post with reckless abandon.

First family photos done by our favorite photographer, Susan Stewart Jordan of Love Hunters Photography  (she also was our engagement, wedding, and maternity photographer!) This session was by far my favorite, so much so that I didn't even care that I'm still boasting an extra 15 pounds of pregnancy weight. Our boys just look too perfectly adorable!

This month also came with a lot of other firsts, first Romp Bluegrass Festival, first Fourth of July, first KY Crushed Stone and KY Concrete Association Summer Conventions, starting day care, first time rolling over (front and back!) and about a million other firsts and changes!

It's going by so quickly and before I know it, it will be his first birthday. So I'm trying to savor every moment, every smile, every giggle, and every snuggle while I can. It's bittersweet looking back at those first few weeks with him as a newborn and knowing that he'll never be that little again,. Those sweet, exhausted, hazy moments that blend into one memory and make my mama heart ache for time to stop moving. Yet at the same time, I can't wait to see what he does next. Every stage is so much fun, his personality growing so much more into the little human Drew and I created.

Someone once told me that the days are long, but the weeks are short. I don't think a truer sentiment has ever been made. Stay sweet, doodle bug, your mama loves you more than you'll ever know.

Three Month Update

Month Three Memories
  • Throwing your first fit at Grandma's when she was babysitting so Mom and Dad could go out for their one year anniversary
  • First trip to Seneca Park and Cove Springs
  • First time in a brewery...uhh, not sure if I should be admitting this or not. For the record, I didn't drink! Tee hee.
Month Three Milestones
  • Bearing weight on your legs and using them to push up to standing when someone holds up your arms
  • Almost rolling over :)
  • Eating about 4 ounces every two or three hours
  • Sleeping almost through the night, only waking up once to eat, usually while still half asleep
  • Still in size one diapers and zero to three month clothes.
  • Plenty of other things that I can't remember because I'm posting this two months too late.
We still love every day of our lives with you and I can't believe how complete you have made our family!

Two Month Update for a Three Month Old Baby

This month has been so much fun with you, and I think that has a lot to do with you sleeping through the night most of the time towards the end of the month. Nothing makes life smoother when everyone gets a full (or almost full) night of sleep. Now that I'm looking back, those first few weeks were so rough. They seem like a blurry haze, and in the thick of it we just powered through. The Tina Fey quote wishing "That I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 a.m., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back" rings so true to me. Funny story, one morning your father admitted to me that he woke up on the floor of your nursery with you asleep next to him with nothing but the throw blanket and pillow to keep him warm. I admitted to him I had been doing the same thing on my nights with you too! We blew up an air mattress to sleep on after that.

Now you sleep by yourself in a dock a tot, like a dream by the way, and we are back to sleeping in our room. I still wake up with you most night since I'm on maternity leave until July, but you only wake up once if at all. Don't take that to mean I'm getting TONS of sleep, mostly because I wake up to check and see if you are still breathing more often than I care to admit. First time mom anxiety is real, and strong.

You are smiling, giggling, and so happy most of the time and you've really started finding your voice. I love to make noises with you that you imitate. Watching you giggle at my funny faces and sounds is just about the best thing on Earth. Now I see why people have so many kids, because I just can't get enough of it. I find myself wishing you'd stay this age forever and at the same time being so excited to see what you learn next. You truly are an amazing little creature and your dad and I feel like the luckiest people on Earth.

Second month milestones:

  • Smiling when happy
  • Giggling at funny faces and noises
  • Holding up head full time
  • Mimicking sounds
  • Sleeping through the night, sometimes for 10 hours!
  • Bearing weight on legs when being held upright

Second month memories:

  • First trip to the library
  • Your Popi's birthday party in Louisville and mom's first freak out about too many hands on her boy (whoops...)
  • Meeting your Uncle Mack when he and Laura took trip home from Cali
  • Mini road trip to Cincinnati to see friends- it took 3 hours to go the 90 minute drive home because SOMEONE was over being out and about
  • Meeting your cousin Tripp and Martin side of the family
  • Meeting the Faulkner's and your second cousin Tess!
  • The best and most wonderful Mother's Day ever, thanks to you, your brother, and your incredibly sweet father
  • First Derby, we spent it at Keeneland with the Logan's and Logsdon's! Your second cousins Kylie, Meghan, and Emma are so crazy about you!!!
  • A few trips to the office to get some work done

Bug, you have made my life turn absolutely upside down in the best possible way. I'm not quite sure I deserve to be this happy and can't believe how incredibly miraculous life truly is.

Love,

Your mama
