It's...not a secret anymore.

Although, I'm only a mere 15 weeks along, Drew and I are fortunate enough to already know that we are having a bouncing baby boy! By the way, why does nobody say a bouncing baby girl? Can baby girls not be a springy as baby boys?
Anyway, we opted to do the 12-19ish week genetic blood testing that analyzes for the risk of the three different trisomy syndromes. With a brother having Downs and my "advanced maternal age" of 35, I needed to be able to plan accordingly if that was the road fate sent us on.
Can I just rant a little on the whole advanced maternity age designation thing??? I barely feel old enough to call myself an adult, so can medical science quit making me feel like some old maid that barely made the cut for mommy hood? Alright end hormonal pregnancy rant number 8,624.
I also swore up and down we were having a girl, probably because I reallllllly wanted a daughter since we already have Silas as a son. I needed a girl to balance out all the testosterone in the house. Or so I thought. Apparently fate has a funny way of showing who's boss, because on Monday of my 13th week of pregnancy we found out we were having a perfectly healthy baby boy!

The test results for the Counsyl test actually come via email, and you have the option to find out the sex. Once that our email showed we were in the clear for risk of Downs, I simply had no opinion on whether or not it was a girl. I still wanted to know, it just seemed so trivial.
Turns out, pregnant women are smug and do only want a healthy baby. I jokingly commented for 5 weeks that if it wasn't a girl, I was sending it back. I wasn't going to be one of those smug pregnant women that Garfunkel and Oates sang about!. But once we clicked that gender button, I was so elated our baby was healthy that it didn't matter.
When Drew pulled me into a huge bear hug and asked if I was okay that it was a boy, I have never been so happy to admit that a little boy sounded just fine to me. It was by far the best moment of my pregnancy to date. It was such a special moment, coupled with the release of tension I'd been feeling since I had the blood drawn,
Don't get me wrong, there's still a small pang of sadness when I think about having a little girl, But at the end of the day, I know I can be a good boy mom. We only plan on having one child together, so two sons in this family it is! A teenage daughter might be more than I could handle anyway!

The Beginnings of a Nursery

Months before we were even pregnant, my friend Courtney joked with me that Drew was welcome to come stay with her and her family when the 6-7 month nesting hormones hit. And after just a mere 2 months or so of pregnancy hormones, and I think he might be willing to take them up on that offer. In my defense, Amazon Prime day hit about a week after those two pink lines decided to make an appearance into our lives. And I may have taken advantage of the sales, along with the outlets on our family vacation in Michigan. Anyway, let's just say I've been nesting since we found out and Baby Logsdon already has a pretty full closet. And a rug, crib, rocker, drapes, a few sheets, a menagerie of stuffed animals... Say a prayer for Drew around December, would you?
I've been trying to settle on a theme and can't decide between a world travel theme or woodland creatures/camping theme. I already had a bunch of "vintage" world travel posters framed, so I'm thinking that's what I'm going to have to stick with. Maybe the toddler/big kid decor can feature the woods and camping. Or not...watch my kid hate camping.
The thing I can't quite nail down is the bedding. I've got some sheets that I picked up on clearance at Pottery Barn Kids. And I've narrowed down the colors to navy, off white, and aqua. But from there, I really don't know what to do. I've found a lot of different sets that I like, but nothing really stands out as a favorite.
Here's what I'm working with:

So one problem I'm having is the crib skirt. I need a 12" drop, and while I know how to tailor a longer one if needed, I haven't found one that I like without a border pattern on the bottom that gets lost in the crib slats. If I go with a solid color, what kind of quilt do I need to find? Most the sheets I have are patterned as well as the ones I registered for. Maybe just a stripe or large print pattern?

Although you can't tell, our walls are a light blue color. We aren't going to bother painting since it's relatively fresh paint, and we're having a BOY!!!! (More on that in another post.) I am going to recover the rocking chair in a neutral fabric (probably a leftover fabric from one of the couches I've recovered.

You can also see 5 of the 9 travel prints we are thinking about using. I found those on a Groupon for $4.50 a piece!!! Then I had them framed at Michael's with the simplest (read:cheapest) white wood frame I could find. Side note, I had a 70% of custom framing coupon that I was able to use on all 9 prints. It saved me roughly $900 or more. Kind of insane, right?

I'm also pretty sure my beloved Pottery Barn ladder shelves are going to be resigned to the storage room once again. I have three of these dang things and do not need more than one in this house. We have tons of built ins, which is great, but renders the ladder shelves kind of redundant. But I just can't bear to get rid of them. I think it's because they were one of the first big girl furniture pieces I bought on my own.
Anyway, I have a more child friendly (shorter) bookshelf that was my dad's growing up and then mine as a child too. I have since painted it an aqua/mint color and plan on lining the backing of the shelf with a white and navy striped contact paper. Hopefully it won't look ridiculous, but at least our kid won't be inclined to climb on it like the ladder shelf.
So that's what I'm working with. We registered for a Hemnes long white dresser from Ikea that will double as our changing table and station. I've picked up a few items to accessorize like a globe, some apothecary jars for easy access to pacis, mittens, teeny tiny baby hats, etc.
Any suggestions are welcome, because the pregnancy brain is no joke, friends.

Bump Date

This week marks the 15th week of pregnancy, and of course, the "golden" second trimester. Hopefully all the hype is true and I'll start to feel wonderful and energized any day now. Currently, I'm just feeling fat and hungry. But that's a nice change from nauseous and exhausted, so if that burst of energy doesn't fully make it my way, I'll take what I've got for now.
I've been taking bump pics since we found out we were expecting, although for awhile it seemed silly. And true to myself form, I forgot a few weeks too. I'm definitely showing now, although some days more than others. today it looks like I'm already 6 months along, so that's fun (SENSE THE TONE.)
I've actually been having a fairly hard time to all the wild changes my body is going through, and getting a bump a bit too early is just one more thing that's making me nervous. But I keep trying to remind myself that a lot of that initial weight gain was due to quitting smoking immediately by replacing cigarettes with mini Reese's cups.
{Disclaimer: If any person reading this is ever thinking about taking up smoking, just take my advice and save yourself the stress and just flush $20-30 down the toilet a week instead. Stupidest thing I ever did as a teen and I would give my left arm to have never started. Okay, end rant. But seriously. Don't.}
Anywho....I've started back on the treadmill and doing some Pilates work at home. At the very least, it makes me feel better that I want to eat all the food in our house all the time. Seriously, 200 extra calories a day doesn't seem like enough to satiate my hungry belly.
And just as a sidenote, that stupid What to Expect book can kiss my ever growing butt with all the new mom guilt about calories and working out. No wonder our country has body image issues. Ugh. (End other rant. Can you tell the hormones have made an appearance? Ha!)
Since self preservation and privacy seem to go way out the window with pregnancy, here's my not so weekly bumps!

Radio Silence

Okay, so besides my usual laziness and crazy schedule, I really did have a pretty good reason for the crickets chirping over here on the blog.

So without any further hesitation...

Drew and I were truly quite surprised on July 8th (happy birthday to meeee!) when two pink lines popped up on a pregnancy test just a mere month after our wedding. While Baby Logsdon isn't quite a honeymoon baby, it sure isn't far from it (one week, to be exact!) Turns out all those years I spent worried that I'd waited too long were in vain. Either way, we are super shocked but incredibly excited for our sweet baby to make their appearance in March, hopefully just in time for Mom and Dad to have March Madness off work. (Like we'll be awake enough to watch basketball, ha!) These days, I'm deep into nursery planning mode, of course, and will obviously being revolving the theme around navy somehow. If we can ever get our weekend schedule to slow down, I might actually get around to nailing some more of it down. Or at the very least hanging the art work. Any advice from any moms out there is always welcome in terms of what not to do decorating wise. Think "stay the heck away from ____ fabric." Or "make sure to have _____ near the changing table." I've been awful lately about taking bump pics, so lets just say I'm finally showing and am 14 weeks and 5 days today. Let the countdown begin! Until my tired ~~chunky~~ fat butt can muster up another post, happy hump day y'all!

2016, The Year of Unwritten Posts

I'm still alive, just still super busy! But in a spare minute of downtime last night, I was going through the pictures on my phone and realizing just how incredibly fast this year is flying by and how much we've managed to pack in! I never got around to posting all of our fun adventures, so I thought a good old fashioned photo dump would be a great way to get it all down and documented.
