Bacheloretting!

Two weekends ago, I hosted a small bachelorette party for my girl Kate that is getting married in September.  Friday afternoon, she and our friend Brooke hopped in my car and we headed down to Asheville, NC for a much needed long weekend.

We didn't make any prior plans other than the cabin rental, so when we arrived we were pleased to find a ton of brochures in the cabin for local activities.

The two above seemed particularly funny.  Because we are as mature as 12 year old boys.

I ordered some Tervis monogrammed goblets for the weekend and filled each with nail polish (wedding themed colors, of course!), lip gloss, and Starburst.

After our arrival and very little sleep the night before we we left (long story), we opted to grab dinner near the cabin and get some beer at the grocery on the way home.

Brooke met a chicken. I also met said chicken and promptly ran away as I am terrified of birds.

I decided this tractor tire was way cooler than any chicken.

Deep in thought at dinner.

Brooke gave this look a lot over the weekend...

Beautiful view from the deck of Straightaway Cafe on Route 9 in Blcak Mountain.  The food was pretty great, too.

The next morning started out with mimosas before we headed to Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain.  They have a great outdoor area and even better beers.  We had a great time there.  After that, we headed into downtown Asheville for lunch at Tupelo Honey Cafe.

I highly recommend the Havarti and Pimento Cheese Grilled Cheese.  It was amazing.

Later that night after a good bit of research on cab companies, we headed out for a night on the town.  Let me just tell you that we did not do enough research.  Our cab ride from the cabin (through the Blue Ridge Mountains) was probably one of the more terrifying experiences of our lives.

{Why do I look like I'm about 60 feet wide in that shirt???}

Despite the emotional trauma endured on the way, we managed to have on heck of a good time that night.  We took a different cab company home, needless to say.

Hey, so you know what's not awesome? Screwdriver Popsicles. Either that or someone made them a little too strong. Not naming names or anything.

OUr lovely cabin, which is probably nicer than my house.  Also, it's named Panther Cat Perch which was quite a fun joke over the weekend.

I haven't laughed as much and as hard as I did that weekend in ages.  It was an absolute blast and I'm so glad we got to celebrate Kate before her big day.

Love you crazy ladies, let's do it again soon.

Happy Hump Day, y'all!

Hey, Friday!

Why do I feel like this four day week took forever to get to Friday?  I think being on vacation makes the next week of work so difficult!  So here's what I've been loving, laughing about, and enjoying this week!

1.  The ridiculous good time we had in Asheville for Kate's bachelorette party.  More on that another day.

Mostly beer.  And some eggs.

Jazz hands???

2. Dinner with my aunt at Havana Rumba.  I'll let the pics speak for the deliciousness that is their menu.

Shrimp Seviche

Cilantro marinated Swai Fish (I think it's tilapia, but I don't really know).

3.  Will's first regular college class this week.  Last semester was an intro to college life and campus to make sure he was ready.  This semester is a full fledged, completely integrated art class.  He's accompanied by his peer partner to each class.  He looks a bit nervous, but I know he loved it!  So proud of you, bubbaloo!!!!

4. Fresh Farmer's Market flowers that brighten up the bedroom.  So pretty!

5.  BDubs date with my girl Alison. I love hanging out with her, she's fantastic!

BONUS ITEMS!!!!!!

I suck at using a drill.  More on that during the closet update.

And this, just because I love it.  And Wu-Tang.

Happy Friday!

Weekending

Awesome. This weekend was just flat out awesome. Super, crazy busy and awesome.  Here's the recap!

Friday night: drinks after work followed by more drinks at home with my house guests for the weekend, Jamie and Steven.

Saturday: Jamie and Steven headed to Valhalla for the PGA Championship and I headed to my new favorite place, Home Depot.  I finished rolling all the walls and most of the trim work in the master closet.  I have about an hour or so of trim work left to do, and then I'm done with paint completely!  Thank goodness. I suck at painting.  Ugh.

After finishing that up in the morning, I headed over to the St. Joe's Orphan's picnic to meet Beth, JD, my favorite newborn, and some other folks.  After a beer and a few dimes spent trying to win a cake, we headed over to the Irish Rover for some more drinks and food.

{My sweet "niece." She's pretty much the most perfect baby ever. I'm not at all biased either.}

{I require an array of beverages.}

{The Welsh Rabbit aka the world's most gigantic grilled cheese.}

Riley had a dental appointment for a teeth cleaning on Saturday morning.  He's so pathetic when he I pick him up from those, it's like he's drunk.  They had to pull a couple of his teeth that were loose, so he's been eating wet food since then.  I think he's alright with this trade off. Fox puppy loves him some wet food.

I instructed the vet to also take a look at his eyes while he was there since he's been stumbling and tripping a lot lately.  As I suspected, his vision is changing and has gotten a tad bit blurry with age. It's nothing major or at all serious, but I did cry on the way home from the vet simply because my dog is aging.  Dog owners, I know you know what I'm talking about.

On to more upbeat topics...

Saturday evening, some friends came over to join me and my golf loving house guests for a few beers on the patio.  We weren't up too late since Jamie and Steven were worn out from the links and I had to get up early to head to Valhalla myself.

{Dad and I at the PGA Championship.}

So by the time we got out there and made our way to the number one tee to watch some of the major players tee off, we got caught in an absolute downpour.  The tournament was on rain delay for almost two hours which gave us plenty of time to dry out in the Chalet.

I almost didn't bring my Hunter wellies because I didn't want to fool with them.  Man am I glad that Dad convinced me I would want them.  It was a mud pit all over the paths!  It was awesome to tromp through puddles and mud without a care in the world!

See that umbrella in the distance covering a guy in blue pants?  I can't remember which PGA golfer that is, but he's famous!  Ha ha! It wasn't any of the leaders, though.  That's the only golfer photo I could sneak without getting in trouble.  There are no photos allowed during tournaments.  Oops...

Sunday night I was exhausted after being out at the course for around 7 hours, but dinner plans had been made and they involved tacos.  We ate at Dragon King's Daughter which is a sushi/taco/Asian-Mexican fusion restaurant and had a lovely time.  It was a nice way to wind down such a whirlwind of a weekend.

Alas, it's Monday and I'm back to the grind, but I have no doubt this will be a good week.  I'm leaving Friday for Asheville for Kate's bachelorette party and I cannot wait to relax for a few days!

Until next time, have a great week y'all!!!!

Friday, August 8, 2014

Hey, Friday! It's so nice to see you.

What a crazy week it's been!  I am so excited for this weekend to get here that getting through this work day is going to be hard!  Here's what I've been loving and doing this week!

1.  Friday night with my favorite guy. Okay, so this was last Friday night, but I think it still counts.

During the summer, the town I grew up in (Frankfort) has a few Friday night free concerts out on the Old Capital Lawn.  Last Friday's featured my dad and his band.  I spent the evening hanging out with my brother, uncle, some friends and our newest puppy cousin while enjoying the musical stylings of my dad and his harmonica.  It was a great time!

2.  As much as I whine and complain about testing concrete, I really do enjoy being at our concrete plants.  It's like visiting your college stomping grounds or something for me. And luckily I only slightly messed up one load of  concrete when I was batching.  Ha.

3. My friends Jamie and Steven are coming in town this weekend to stay and watch some golf.  It's been awhile since we hung out, so I'm looking forward to catching up!

{ The far left and the far right are Jamie and Steven, respectively.}

4. So, it's very rare that I'm happy it's raining, but today I am all about it. I need a day to slow down and catch up on some not so fun stuff (like vacuuming) that I've postponed to do other much more entertaining stuff. Rainy days are perfect for that. When I get home from work tonight, I'll be cleaning like a mad woman, and gloomy, drizzly weather makes it a heck of a lot easier to say no to going out.

5.  As I mentioned earlier, Jamie and Steven are coming in town to watch some golf.  What I didn't fill you in on is that the PGA Championship is at Valhalla this week and weekend.  This Sunday I will be watching from a fancy tent on the 17th hole and plotting how I can meet Rory McIlroy.  Have I ever mentioned how my life long dream is to be the wife of the winner of a PGA tournament?  I've long dreamed of being the one that greets their happy husband on the 18th hole.  I guess it's all those years of growing up on a golf course.  Plus golf is my second favorite sport to watch, only to football.

We would totally make adorable babies.  I'm sure every other single lady between 18-35 has the same dream... Plus, I hear his new girlfriend has been spotted all over the course.  Le sigh.
Ahhh, I'm so funny!

Anyway, happy weekending, y'all!

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

The past two weeks have been a bit chaotic and pretty exciting in terms of major changes in my life. The biggest news is that my roommate Robbie has moved out after to close to eight years of living together. He took a job back in Lexington, and as of last Thursday, I am flying solo in mi casa.

I was extremely nervous and worried that I would not enjoy living alone, but it's been almost a week, and so far I am loving it!  It's kind of crazy that at thirty-three years of age, I've never really lived alone.Sure there were a few months here and there when I was sans roomie, but never a permanent length longer than 8 months. And I've definitely never been single during those times.

Needless to say, I'm curious as to how it's going to be when something major breaks and I have no idea how to fix it.  I can unclog a drain, but other than minor repairs, I'm ill equipped.  Anyone have a good handy man in the area???

Once the initial shock that Robbie and I were no longer going to be common law married (ha ha, just kidding, that's not a thing anymore), I started thinking about what to do with his empty bedroom. My immediate reaction was to use it as the room was intended, as a bedroom.  I'm so creative. Snort.

Then I realized that I already have two guest rooms and one of those rarely gets used. Why the hell did I need a third??? Plus, the duvet and sheet sets I would want to use are close to the cost of a mortgage payment on a decent house. Stupid Italian linens, why you so expensive (insert that meme guy thingy here)???

{It's sooo pretty!!!!!}

I also realized that I would have to another bed and frame. Have I mentioned that I still am working on getting my master bedroom redecorated? Nothing like starting a new project before finishing a previous one. Can we say ADD, kids?

Anyway, already too long of a story short, I'm turning his room into a giant closet.

Woooooooo-to-the-hoooooo!

I cannot wait to have all my hanging clothes, shoes, and accessories in one room!!!!  They are currently spread throughout four different closets and the basement.  Hey, I have an old house with small closets.

And yes, I shop too much. Quit judging me. Just kidding, judge away.  And if you aren't, you probably will when I do a reveal one day.  It's cool.  The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Alright, back on track, crazy shoe lady...  So here's step one, two, and three of the process.

1.  Paint swatches. I wanted periwinkle, something kind of relaxing and very girly.  Two of those were ruled out very quickly.  I ended up settling on the first one in the middle row.

2. Paint! By myself!!! With little to no experience! Here's the first coat. Let's just say the second coat and trim work are going to be the death of me.  I'm almost done, but I am a terrible painter.  And a terrible klutz.  The combo has not been good for the total number of touch up spots to the trim work...

3.  Start adding the organizational systems! All by myself!  Eight shoe shelf units put together by yours truly and only one splinter. And very minimal cursing. But let's be honest, it's not rocket science.  I'm still proud of me, though. Yay!

This is before I put the last two sets together.  Yes, I realize it is ridiculous to need that many if these.  Hush your mouth.  (Hey, look at my new pair of sandals in the one spot that's filled! Ohmahgawd, shoes!!!!!)

I've ordered the hanging rod pieces and am anxiously awaiting someone to volunteer to install them.  Ha ha, you so cray, crazy shoe lady!

Anyway, the project has been put on hold temporarily as I will be working at one of our concrete plants the rest of the week (read: I will be getting up at ungodly hours to go to work). I'll post updates soon!  Yay, giant master closet room!!!!

Hey Friday, numero dos!

Howdy, y'all.  It's finally Friday and here's what I'm into this week.  It's a bit of a random list, but I'm a random kind of gal.

1.  Memes.  Gawd, I love me some silly memes.  These are my favorites from the past week or so.

I very rarely wear socks this time of year, but bet your bottom dollar that I'll laugh about this during the winter months when I have seven billion unmatched socks.

I have a problem with cheese.  As shown by very large upper arms.  Plus, the dog in this picture looks a heck of a lot like my fox puppy.

I don't think this needs any explanation.  Champagne is my fave!

2. My herbs are still alive, despite the ridiculous summer heat. The basil is out of control.  Who has a great pesto recipe they want to send me?

3.  Masters of Sex is back in full swing.  I stumbled upon this Showtime series at the very beginning of the first season, and man, is it interesting, racy, dramatic, and addictive!

4.  My favorite BB cream finally came out with a shade that matches absolutely perfectly.  I've been mixing multiple shades forever to match my skin tone.  Let's just say that this is a big deal.

5. Fun weekend plans!  I've got a lot going on this weekend that I can't wait to get started.  I just need this busy work day to go ahead and hurry up!

Happy Friday, y'all!
