Bachelorette Weekend

This weekend is my bachelorette party and I couldn't be more excited to get together with some of my best gals! We're doing a super low key drinks, dinner, hang out here in Frankfort, and that's exactly what I wanted. Something easy, fun, and local.
I remember in my twenties when I thought I wanted to travel and do a whole weekend away for my bachelorette party. As I've gotten older, what I have realized is most important to me is having the ladies in my life that have helped me become who I am and are excited to celebrate Drew and my's marriage. And the best way to do that is to stay local.
Let's face it, I can't party like I used to. Or at all for that matter. And most of my friends have kids. So going out of town for some huge expensive blow out just isn't our style anymore. It would be totally dumb to spend a bunch of money on a hotel room and drive more than an hour when we're all going to fall asleep by 10:30 pm. Hee hee hee!
So with that being said, I cannot thank my lovely matrons of honor enough for throwing this wonderful evening for me! It's exactly what the doctor ordered to help me enjoy some of the wedding planning process and an excuse to be really excited (like I need and excuse!) about the big day as it approaches.
Check back for an recap next week sometime, and until then, here's some oldie-but-goodies pics over the years with just a few of my gals!

Wedding Update!

Y'all, we made a major "complete" check mark on our wedding checklist last night. I cannot tell you how relieved I am to finally be able to mark "choose readings and write the ceremony" off our to do list. This one was super stressing me out.
I mean, almost everything about this wedding is stressing me out, but this is one thing that actually matters to me in the grand scheme of all things wedding. The words we hear and say to each other on June 11th are so incredibly important to us, and the part that I take most seriously.
So, needless to say, choosing all the readings and whatnot was a major decision. There was a few debates and a bout of tears, but what we chose is exactly what we wanted and expresses exactly the message we want to incorporate into our lives and marriage. But word to the wise, don't do any wedding planning with your fiancee when you're hormonal and moody. (FYI, everything is good now. I need to chill.)
We referred to this book a lot when searching for poems and quotes. Which was kind of annoying that we found almost everything we are using from one book. I bought 4. I really enjoy buying books...
{Buy it here if you're feelin' froggy! There's some great prose for lots of occasions in there.}
Anyway, the point of this rambling mess of a post is that we are getting so close and wrapping up all the little details! Only 45 days to go!!!!! I cannot wait to become Drew's wife!
{Wife!?! Wow, sounds awesome and weird all at the same time!}

Soccer Star in the Making

Have I mentioned my future step-son is the next Pele? Not really, but we were over the moon excited for Silas to make three goals in his two games last week! None of us (parents and step-parents) are worried about his soccer abilities in terms of success, but it sure as hell was fun to see him get so incredibly excited after making his first goals of his soccer career! I thought he was going to burst from joy, which made me heart just about burst too!

Check out the live shots yourself! I might just be a smidge proud of him...

Kick Off

First Attempt

GOOOOOAAAALLLL!!!!

And the best part, the celebration!!!

Youth soccer is a hoot, and lucky for us the weather has been perfect for his past few games. It's fun to watch him finally get a bit more involved in the game. He loves it, and swears he's going to be famous now that he's in his third season of the sport. Outta of the mouths of babes, I tell ya!

I think I figured out how to arrange the family room, finally!!!! Woo hoo! I know that this is not that exciting to ready about, but it has been at least 5 months of messing with this space. What do you guys think?

(Ugh, get out your real camera, lazy girl!)

Fashionista

Is anyone else as obsessed with embroidered clothes as I am these days???

I'm super digging this look, and I think I have everything in my closet to make it happen! Woohoo! I'm happy and my wallet is happy!

(Thanks for the pic, Pinterest! Also, I don't  know how to put in links on the mobile version of blogger.)

Any-who! Yay for fashion! What else is cute this season?

Decorating Disasters

I might as well just put up multiple pictures of my house for this post and call it a day. We're right in the middle of moving Drew's stuff in this week, and we're both worn out.

Not to mention being worn out, I am beyond over trying to decorate this massive house we bought. (Yeah, whine about your large house, lady. No one care.) The problem I'm having is trying to blend two very different decorating styles, on a budget, and with a color palette I'm not really use to.

Cool beach tones and grays have never really been my go to, but when we bought the house that's what was there. And we liked them a lot. We just didn't own anything that matched. So I've spent the last six months either recovering our existing furniture or buying new stuff. It's been mostly fun, but there is one space I cannot decide what I want.

Our family room chairs are making me crazy. Everything I end up putting in there either is the wrong size or the wrong shape. I just cannot get it right. And I'm driving Drew insane, to say the least.

So what do you guys think of this set up?

(It's a dang mess up in here!)

Any help or tips? I am at the end of my design rope...

Wednesday's Child is Full of Updates

I'm not full of woe or anything like the saying goes, I just couldn't think of a better title for a hump day post. Ha!

The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind, and don't show any signs of slowing down, but things are good. The Concrete Ball is over and seemed to be a great success. Last year we raised around $122,000 dollars for Day Spring, and this year I'm hoping we hit $130K. The event ran very smoothly, and I loved our theme, a 1920's Speakeasy (think Gatsby or Downton Abbey.)

My hair was a mess, however. It was one of those hair days that make you wanna shave it all off and call it a day. And yes, that is literally just a ponytail. I gave up after fighting with it for over 40 minutes and a near panic attack. So much for looking like a professional event chair!

Anyway, since Sunday when I got home to recover from a week on my feet running non-stop, a lot of fun exciting things have happened! (Instead of resting, that is. I'm still exhausted.)

1. My "nephew" Jack was born! Teeny little guy came into this world on Thursday to his happy parents, my friend Courtney and husband John. I finally got to meet him on Sunday, and oh my, how sweet!!!! I'm already in love! Can't wait to see him again soon.

2. Drew and Silas are officially living under the same roof as me. It is really nice to not have to wonder which house we are staying at every week.  It's only been a couple of days, and not all of the stuff is there, (we are leaving a good bit of decor and furniture to stage the old house when it goes for sale soon) but it's where we are sleeping for good.

3. Family in town from Seattle is making the middle of week a heck of a lot more fun (and noisy!) Drew's Uncle Matt and his five year old, Jack, are staying with us for a couple days to visit. Jack and Silas have a blast together! It's nice for Silas to have someone to play with in Frankfort, even if it's only for a couple days.

4. This weekend promises more moving of boxes and hauling of junk to the curb. And that's coming from my stuff too. We have a ridiculous amount of stuff between the two of us. Does anyone else absolutely love the feeling of dropping off clothes to consign or donate like I do? It's kind of a rush.

5. I got our first wedding RSVP!!!! It's all happening!

So until next time, hope everyone a great rest of the week!

Long Hair, Don't Care

Over the past few years, I've finally realized that if I'm going to grow hair past my shoulders, I'm going to have use conditioner. I never had to with my short bob, in fact conditioner was a recipe for flat, yucky hair.

Over the past few years, I've tried out a few brands and they were mostly fine. Buuuut, lo and behold the bounty of discoveries that await in your boyfriend's shower.

So one night back when we were still "just dating," I forgot my conditioner. I was super reluctant to try his, because I'm pretty particular about my beauty and hair products. But I was wrong, and I can admit when I'm wrong (extreme sarcasm.) This cheap grocery store line of conditioner blows my expensive conditioners out of the water.

So here's my super cheap recommendation for you to try, Suave Rosemary and Mint. And we'll, if you don't like it, you only spent $2.

Seriously, it makes my hair super soft and not heavy, greasy, or weighed down. Even the next day. I'm as shocked as you are.

And to make things even better, Drew remembered how much I raved about it, and picked up and extra bottle a few weeks later when it was on sale. For. 99. Cents. I mean, not even a whole dollar. Also, my (now) fiancée is the sweetest, most thoughtful guy ever!

No ones paying me say this, by the way. But it would be super nice if they did...ha!

Until next time!

An Ode to Boyfriend Jeans

Oh, fabulous boyfriend jeans, how I love you. You are the perfect mix of comfort and style, what else can you do?

I look and feel like a slob, but actually I'm very hip and in chic. Strangers will woo when I'm passed in the street.

I can pair you with flats, or cute ankle booties. I can wear you with tees or dress up with blouses.

You roll up at the bottom, my short legs are pleased. You do not drag on the ground, no hemming required.

Oh lovely boyfriend jeans, please don't go out of style.

This photo is lame, but the best I can do. I've got a meeting soon, and I must skiddly-doo!

(No poets were consulted in the making of this horrible prose.)

Weekending

We kicked some major ass this weekend in terms of getting things ready to combine our two houses. The official moving day is less than two weeks away, and we would like to list Drew's house as soon as possible, so we have quite the laundry list of repairs and things to do before then.
I thought instead of boring everyone with the minutiae of what we got done, I'd give you a little list!
  1. 3, the number of times I cut myself. I will never claim to be anything other than a giant klutz.
  2. 17, the number of boxes so far that will be donated, yard saled, or tossed
  3. 60, the approximate number of feet of fence that we removed
  4. 2, yards mowed
  5. 2 cases of poison ivy. It's on my damn face, y'all. I can't make this stuff up.
  6. 4, bathrooms cleaned
  7. 7, boxes of camping gear. We seriously need to downsize some of this...
  8. About 8,000, number of ants I killed in our new kitchen. What is with these tiny little jerks? Get outta my kitchen!!!
  9. 17, planters planted and then covered because we had a frost Saturday night. Seriously, Kentucky weather, either be spring or don't. But make up your dang mind!
  10. 2, times I vacuumed our new family room in order to get up the mess of leaves that blows in our patio door.
  11. 50, the miles per hour of the wind on Saturday. I thought both the houses were going to blow away! Since when did we move to Kansas?
  12. 3, the number of times we ate tacos. This is actually pretty normal for me. Love me some tacos, y'all.
  13. 45, number of minutes our silly pup Maggie, sat in the car (doors open, of course) waiting to go one a car ride. She looooves some car rides.
  14. 0, number of babies born to my preggo friend Courts. Come on, Baby Jack! We can't wait to  meet you!!! Hang in there, mom to be! He'll be here sooner than we know it!
  15. About a million, times I exclaimed that we have too much stuff.
So that's it folks, hope your weekend was just as productive as ours! And if it wasn't, I hope that you got to relax. We sure didn't. I'm leaving you guys with a totally unrelated pic of us in New Orleans a few months ago during Mardi Gras. We were much more relaxed back then, ha!
